At any given time in today's media, you might hear about Wal-Marts current class action lawsuit that is being held against them in the supreme court. Wal-Mart has been allegedly discriminating women in the workplace. not offering the women pay raises and promotion opportunities. You might wonder why Wal-Mart would do such a thing like this. I feel they do this because they honestly believe that they can get away with such actions. And why not, the current lawsuit against them that is currently in the Supreme Court has taken over ten years to process. According to plaintiff Edith Arana on what keeps the women going on in this fight against the corporate giant, "I know what happened to me and it's not just me. The women of this lawsuit are the poster children for the all the women who couldn't do this, and they each have families and names and faces."
To Me, this whole issue should never have started in the first place. Thanks to the Equal Rights Amendment which passed in 1923, all men and woman are given equal rights in all aspects of life, including the workplace. This lawsuit will not only determine if Wal-Mart has discrimination against Edith Arana, but also an entire class of workers. Wal-Mart should never have gone so far to try to discriminate against these woman. Hopefully now they will pay the price for doing so in this supreme court class action lawsuit
Dear Hunter,
ReplyDeleteI believe that this is a major issue that needs to be resolved. especially since that it incolves an amendment.
"Thanks to the Equal Rights Amendment which passed in 1923, all men and woman are given equal rights in all aspects of life, including the workplace. This lawsuit will not only determine if Wal-Mart has discrimination against Edith Arana, but also an entire class of workers." Because of this amendment, it will help to court to determine what to do on the issue, this also means that it is being takien very seriouse.
"Hopefully now they will pay the price for doing so in this supreme court class action lawsuit." Wal-Mart has gotten by with so many things that like you said, hopefully they pay the price for this one and it is a wake up call for them.
Thank you for your post and bringing up this huge issue that needs more attention.

Dear Hunter,
ReplyDeleteAs a woman, I find this completely ridiculous. We are in 2011, this kind of discrimination should definitely not be happening. Also, I hope that not only this lady wins her case but that more and more women come forward and make a case again Wal-Mart.
The fact that it has taken years for this case to make it to the Supreme Court is a shock. Most people wouldn’t be able to hang out, financially, for that long. It is ludicrous that is more probable for someone to win a case because they have money can waste time (like Wal-Mart) rather than who deserves to win.
I really like this post as a whole. There is no way anyone should get away with discriminating against anyone may it be due to race, gender, age, or anything else. The fact that Wal-Mart thinks that just because it is such a big business it ca do this, is ridiculous. I hope that more women call out the company for treating them unfairly because this needs to stop NOW.
Thank you for bringing this to the light You post was direct and to the point, but stays interesting. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to ready wait you post next.

Dear Hunter,
ReplyDeleteI never knew that Walmart had done this. That not right at all. Corporations shouldn't be able to even think that they can get away with do things like this. Especially to women who by the Amendment have equal rights.
I like the statement "Wal-Mart has been allegedly discriminating women in the workplace." When i read this i was shocked. I thought all of the bad things people said about wal-mart were wrong. At least a little bit wrong. I'm very surprised that they would stoop so low.
I very much agree with the fact that Wal-Mart shouldn't have gone this far. I feel the need to hit something when i read information about corporations that do these things. Especially corporations that people shop at.
This was all in all a very good post. It's always good to write about corporations nobody thinks are bad. I can't wait to read more posts in the future.
Sincerely,
